Yeosung Gukgeuk that started at the end of the 1940s is a similar type of the Korean traditional operas that declined after its popularity peaking during the 1950s through 1960s. It is a Genre where singing (唱) and dancing (舞) are combined and contains remaking stories of popular myths or novels based on Korean traditional music, Pansori. Yeosung Gukgeuk obviously appropriates the characters who perform conventional gender role and their typical melodrama, however, It has a significantly, uniquely subversive style what only women player can perform all of characters.

I have made a challengeable enthusiasm, questioning two-gender based gender system always known as truth, following and representing the gender expressions of player who are identified male leaders. For the recent works, I have attempt to invite the players to my setting and direction, instead I have discovered and captured some subversive gender images, standing around their on/off-stage for my early pieces.

The players explain about their gender reversing performances, emphasize how to make and train their role on stage, and reveal the crossing and traversing gender through their endless training and performing against so-called given gender, appearing on the empty stage/ in front of the closed curtain where only stage-like-place without any show. This empty stage is going to be filled with their performative playing, that is going to be a ‘cue’, how the gender system is constructed with performance, which is copy-able. Moreover, it is metaphorically alludes, gender has never been natural.
