<정동의 막>은 사라져 가고 있는 여성국극 전통의 끝자락에 남겨진, 거의 마지막 세대로서의 갈등과 내적 투쟁을 경험한 젊은 여성국극 남역배우를 조명한다. 이 작품은 15분가량의 단채널 비디오로 제작되며, 1회의 퍼포먼스를 동반한다. 배우는 무대에 서기까지 관계하는 모든 시공간에서 지루함에 가까운 반복적인 훈련의 행위를 통해 남성성을 수행하며, 서서히 남성이 되어간다. 이 ‘되어감’의 과정을 밀착적으로 추적, 포착하는 이 작품은 또한, 한 남역배우의 고민과 갈등을 끌어안은 채로 분출하는 비언어화된 어떤 뜨거운 이끌림과 열망/ 정동에 감응하고자 하는 노력이다.

The work <Act of Affect> sheds light on a young Yeosung Gukguek actress who plays a male character and experiences the conflict and inner struggle of being what may be the final generation of Yoesung Gukguek performer; she essentially stands on the verge of the tradition’s end. The Actress, following an act of training that is repetitive to the point of approaching boredom and encompasses all of her space and time until she appears on stage, performs masculinity and, as a result, gradually becomes a man. Coherently tracing and capturing this process of “becoming,” this work is also an effort to respond to a certain nonverbal fiery attraction and desire/affect, exploding with the embrace of the concern and conflict of an actress playing a male character. |
